About the Town of Piru

Piru is an unincorporated historic town whose history dates back to 1887 when a Christian missionary bought a land grant for the purpose of establishing a "Second Garden of Eden" on which he planted many of the fruits identified with the Biblical garden, including apricots, dates, figs, grapes, olives, and pomegranates, many of which can still be seen today. The name Piru comes from the word the local Native American tribe used for the tule reeds growing along what is now called Piru Creek, which they used to make baskets both for subsistence and trade. Located just north of the Santa Clara river and to the East of Santa Clarita along East Telegraph Road, Piru is a lovely rural town that nonetheless maintains its connection to the urban centers from Los Angeles to Ventura.

Despite a small population of just over 2000, the town of Piru is fiercely self-sufficient, with all of the amenities of much larger towns. From specialty markets to skate parks and community centers, Piru offers its residents a relaxed lifestyle in a small and fully-walkable town.
